Backend Junior
FastAPI, Spring Boot, REST APIs, JWT, Databases, Testing
52% (56%)
The concept
A REST API exposes resources through predictable URLs and HTTP methods, protects them with authentication and answers with clear status codes. Behind it, a normalized schema, migrations and connection pooling keep the data reliable as the app grows, and automated tests catch regressions before they ship.
How I've used it
Built the job tracker's 40-endpoint FastAPI backend, layered into routers and services and protected with JWT, on PostgreSQL with numbered SQL migrations and a psycopg2 connection pool, covered by 114 pytest integration tests. It runs live behind the demo. In the ledger API (Spring Boot, PostgreSQL) I used transactions, row locks, constraints and triggers, covered by 52 Testcontainers tests. Also used MySQL through JDBC in the grade manager, backed by the Databases course and IBM's SQL certificate.

AI / machine learning Junior
RAG, Embeddings, Vector search, Prompt engineering
32% (36%)
The concept
Retrieval-augmented generation grounds a model's answer in real documents: text is split into chunks, turned into vectors (embeddings) and ranked by similarity to the question.
How I've used it
Built the RAG system twice: first every step from scratch (chunking, hashing-based embeddings, top-k cosine similarity) to understand it, then rebuilt it on LlamaIndex, MiniLM embeddings, a persistent Chroma index and Claude through LangChain, in a Streamlit app that shows the sources behind each answer. Probability and Statistics covers the math behind the scores, and the Prompt Engineering certificate the model side. Currently working on IBM's AI Developer certificate.
-
Cloud Junior
AWS, Cloud deployment
20% (28%)
The concept
Cloud platforms rent computing, storage and databases on demand, with security split between the provider and the customer (the shared responsibility model).
How I've used it
AWS Cloud Practitioner Essentials covered core services (EC2, S3, IAM) and pricing. The job tracker is deployed and live on a cloud host.
-
System design Junior
Authentication, Authorization, Idempotency, Concurrency control, Connection pooling
32% (36%)
The concept
System design decides how components connect: where requests enter, how identity and permissions are checked, how data is stored and how the system copes with more users.
How I've used it
In the job tracker, requests enter through FastAPI routers grouped by resource. Authentication (JWT sign-in) confirms who the user is, and authorization checks they only reach their own applications. A pooled connection layer links the API to PostgreSQL, and Docker Compose runs the services together. In the ledger API, idempotency keys make a retried payment post only once, and accounts are locked in a fixed order so concurrent transfers can neither overdraw an account nor deadlock. Still learning: caching and load balancing at scale.
-
DevOps & version control Junior
Git, GitHub, Docker, CI/CD, Command line
40% (44%)
The concept
Version control keeps every change traceable and reversible. Containers and CI/CD make builds reproducible and deployments automatic.
How I've used it
Git and GitHub on every project, backed by Meta's Version Control certificate. Containerized the job tracker with Docker Compose and deploy it through a GitHub Actions pipeline. The ledger API runs its 52 tests in GitHub Actions on every push, with Testcontainers starting a real PostgreSQL.
-
Web / front-end Junior
HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React basics
28% (36%)
The concept
Semantic HTML, responsive CSS and component-based interfaces keep a site accessible on any screen and easy to maintain.
How I've used it
Learned the foundations in Web Programming (HTML, CSS, JavaScript). Built the job tracker's React frontend, and this portfolio in plain HTML, CSS and JavaScript, including the English/French toggle and these expandable rows. Currently completing Meta's React Basics certificate.
-
CS fundamentals Junior
OOP, Data structures, Algorithms, Big-O, Computer hardware
44% (48%)
The concept
Choosing the right data structure, and knowing its cost in Big-O terms, decides whether code stays fast as data grows. Object-oriented design keeps larger programs organized through encapsulation and clear interfaces.
How I've used it
Studied OOP and data structures and algorithms in Java, and how the CPU and memory run code in System Hardware. Applied them in the RAG system (hashing for embeddings, top-k ranking over vectors) and in the class design of the grade manager.
